  • Are DVD’s as good as a Human Tutor?

    August 18th, 2010 by noel

I have had lots of emails from friends and new designers/artists asking if purchasing a DVD online is as good as a human tutor, so I thought I’d make a post on it.

You can never really replace the experience you get from being an apprentice to a professional for many years, its how you really learn about any business and not just the techniques but the fundamentals.

That being said DVD tutorials are great for learning new techniques or refreshing old ones and have the added convenience of being accessible  over and over.

The best company I have come across for well produced DVD’s In all formats of Film making,  Design and Photography is “The Gnomon Workshop” . The site offers High Quality, well produced  Videos by the best people in their respected industry.   See What I mean here

I personally own 8 videos for digital Matte Painting I use as reference for when I work on projects for film and TV. I have also downloaded photoshop tutorials which have greatly helped in the re-touching area so I recommend this to everyone.

So fellow artists and fans I would recommend looking into these forms of tutorials as a way to help with day to day work flow but still be open to the road of apprenticeship as its invaluable experience.
